3. Oblations Family Duties:
Serve as oblation bearers. This means that at the Offertory Sentence they have picked up the bread, water and wine from the small table at the rear of the church. They proceed up the center aisle in front of the shepherds, to the chancel step in front of the altar. They first hand the bread to the acolyte, and then the water and wine to the chalice bearer. After the acolyte has taken the bread offering, the acolyte gives the empty collection plates to the shepherds. The acolyte and chalice bearer bow to the Oblation Bearers and Shepherds, indicating that the Oblation Bearers should return to their seat, and the Shepherds should begin the collection of offerings.
